One Stitch At A Time

I used to do a lot of quilting. I liked hand-quilting the layers of fabric and batting together. That was my favorite thing. The piecing was alright but I was not really good at matching corners, having smooth curves etc.

But, there comes a time in each of our lives when we have to put some things aside. It just got too much for me. So, I gave or sold all my fabric stash, gave my sewing machine to my daughter and now I am reduced to looking at pictures of what I once enjoyed doing.

I'm not complaining. I often wondered what in the world people did with them when they were cranking out one quilt right after another!! I hope, like mine, they went to a good home.

I did so love to go to the fabric store. I always walked out with bags of stuff and that is what all quilters do, I am thinking.

Here is some of my work

How many of you are quilters?

                               Or was once a quilter?

  1. Beautiful quilts, I still make quilts and give them all away, these days to charities,

  2. I've scrolled through those gorgeous quilts again and again. They are truly beautiful works of art, IF I had to choose my favourite it would be the the one with all the small squares in shades if blue. So many hours if love and worn must have gone into creating it. GM

  3. Oh my goodness. Each one is more beautiful than the one before! I have so much appreciation for quilters, because I know I would never be able to do it. Thank you for sharing! And, if I had to choose my very favorite, it would be the one with the pretty spring flowers!

No, I've never quilted but am awed by the work of others.

  6. Those are some beautiful quilts. I never have - neither did my mom but my Tennessee Grandma was a quilter and I still have a few of them. They are all worn and torn but I love them all the same!

  12. Beautiful quilts Latane - something I never made despite doing just about every other type of sewing/fabric work over the years. Now I do a little embroidery and knitting - sewing machine is out of order so I really should get off my you know what and get that repaired to perhaps inspire me!

  13. Oldest daughter is the quilter in the family now. It skipped a generation - my mom was a quilter. Your output was gorgeous despite your disclaimer about the piecing.

  14. Beautiful work! I was never a quilter, but did quite a bit of sewing in the past. I had that favorite fabric store, too, even still have a very small fabric stash. Every now and then I will pass some on to one of our daughters who is sewing now.

  15. OH MY GOODNESS! You made some beautiful quilts. I did a few but nothing as spectacular as yours. I still sew though and love it...and love fabric. I do think it is a sickness --an addiction for me. lol. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the day. xo Diana

  16. My only quilting has been painting a "barn quilt"! But crochet... I've made many crocheted afghans and other items. I'm glad I don't have to pick a favorite of your quilts... they're All so pretty and fun!

  17. Those are all gorgeous. You are talented! I plan to give it a try when I retire in a few months and I'm thinking I'll be addicted in no time. I love fabric stores too!
