Imagine our surprise to see this old telephone booth sitting on the sidewalk just outside the Salty Cod restaurant in Athens, Alabama.
Do you remember those days? Before cellphones. When you'd better have a dime in your pocket so you could call home or somebody else.
I wonder what we did without cellphones. But, then again, they have changed our lives forever and not always for the good.
Ya'all look fabulous. You make me smile.
ReplyDeletePhone booths! The coziness was rather nice for me as a kid, like have a real fort of my own.
I sure do remember those days. Love the old British 'call box'.
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes, I do! And you look lovely, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we had any phone booths on the prairies when I was living there. But I do remember phones on the walls of lobbies of, say, restaurants, or such. Yes, a dime was all it took. Granny M
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure I remember needing a dime. My best memory is needing a quarter! Sometimes there would be a line for those who needed to use the phone.
ReplyDeleteI wish they still had coin phones. A few years ago I left my purse in the driveway at my parent's house and I didn't realize it until I was one hour into my drive home. My cell phone was in my purse so I had no way to contact them until I got home, which was an additional 1-1/2 hours away. I had to hope no one walking by would take it. I did have coins in my car so I would have been able to call them if there were still coin operated phones. I know I could have stopped at a gas station and asked a clerk to use someone's cell phone but I just kept driving and hoped for the best:)
ReplyDeleteWas there really a phone in there?
ReplyDeleteYes, Latane, I remember those days and the last time I saw a pay phone was at the local library where they actually have one just inside the front door, not in a booth. The one here reminded me of the ones we recently saw in London which were still in use too!
