The cool fall days make me think of my Mother. Oh, the things she would bake, filling the house with all sorts of wonderful smells.
One of those was her Sweet Potato Gingerbread.
Here's my Mom's recipe in her own handwriting. What a treasure to have that to keep and to use since I no longer have her.
I serve mine with a dollop of whipped cream, lemon sauce and a sprinkle of toasted almonds.
I am sure you have similiar memories and I'd love it if you'd share in the comment section.
I have never heard of sweet potato gingerbread! What an interesting recipe!
ReplyDeleteIve just made my grandmothers Christmas cake recipe. My house smells like her kitchen x
Once upon a time my mother made gingerbread during my childhood. I don't recall she did it when I was an adult. Her dessert favorite was pie - any kind.
ReplyDeleteWonderful recipe, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteGinger cookies, in Ohio the Roscoe Village Society had or has a candle lightening ceremony in the beginning of December. At the visitor's center, they served warm cider and ginger cookies members made from a canal days recipe using bacon grease. I cut my cookies to half lard and half bacon grease. They are a favorite holiday cookie.
I think this is so special! I've never heard of sweet potato gingerbread but I can imagine it's good. Having this in her writing is the best!
ReplyDeleteThat’s wonderful! I bet the aroma is divine!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so good! I'm going to try it this holiday. Thanks for sharing and it's sweet to see her cursive writing, reminds me of my mom too.
ReplyDeleteHaving that recipe handed down from your Mom and in her writing makes it even more precious. GM
