Are you old enough to remember the Glenn Miller Orchestra?
Not many people are... After all his plane disappeared over the English Channel during WWII.
I first discovered his music during my high school years marching in the band to tunes like 'In The Mood' and 'American Patrol'.
Last night, Shirley and I attended a concert performed by the current Glenn Miller Band. As the band director said, 'there are no original members of the band here tonight'. That comment drew laughter. The music started with Sunset Serenade and the crowd went wild! There were a bunch of memories floating about the place. I had goosebumps!
The concert was held in the Cultural Arts Center. Before the show, we gals wandered about the two art galleries and enjoyed a great collection on art, carvings and photography done by local artists. There's a bunch of talent living in this neck of the woods!
What a great evening you enjoyed! Before I met my musician hubby, I was pretty ignorant about big band music. Now I love listening when he puts on Glenn Miller and the like. I also like the Nelson Riddle orchestra, but I guess that's not the same thing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely adventure!
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy all the Big Bands, Glenn Miller is a special favorite here too. We have Sirius and Pandora streaming and The 40s and/or big band channels are played on both. This music was definitely the best. What a wonderful concert you and your friend attended, Latane; the artwork was great to see as well.
ReplyDeleteOh how fun. I know you enjoyed the music and the memories. Enjoy your evening dear friend. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteHi again, Latane, forgot to say that I mentioned your blog post about junk mail in my post today, so you may see a few more comments.
ReplyDeleteYou are 88?? You're wonderfully young and beautiful! Oh, I especially love the Glen Miller Band...and all Big Band music. I will be 80 in September. Thank you for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteGlen Miller music is/was one of a kind. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd you are such a lovely looking older lady.
Gentle hugs, from this 85 year old lady,
"Miss B.B."
