Fortune's Rocks

                                           What I'm Reading

To begin with I could not get into this book. I'd read Anita Shreve before but for some reason I couldn't figure out where she was going with this character, Olympia. But, I persevered and suddenly it was like I could not read fast enough to find out what was happening next.

I don't want it to be a spoiler for you so won't tell you much. Time frame: turn of the century (1899-1900s) and this 15 year old girl makes a decision that changes her life and those around her.

I got deep into the book and liked how she was moving along to alter what had happened to her and then she ups and does something else stupid. (at least in my eyes) and it made me so angry. That's not how I wanted it to go. But, I still have about 1/4 of the book to go yet so I will continue on. That girl had better make me happy again!!

I like happy endings. This book has had so many twists and turns and surprises. Glad I stuck with it.

  1. Interesting that you persevered and "got into it." If a book hasn't grabbed me by the end of chapter 1, it gets tossed aside. Life is short; there are too many good books to waste time on a slow starter. Just my 2¢...

  2. I do like this author and have a feeling I've read this one but I can't remember the plot. I'll have to research it now.

  3. I'm reading a book right now that I find myself wishing it would end. I think I've grown bored with it. But I will finish it....maybe skim a few pages here amd there to make it go faster. I dearly love books that you just can't wait to get back to! But those are few and far between....

  5. I used to read her books long ago but don't recall if it included this one - perhaps this is newer.
Currently reading one book I'm not 'into' really, may not complete, and another which is interesting except the subject matter is rather not my favorite. Meanwhile I read a chapter of my lovely English Nature notes book - highlighting life in the farm POND through the four seasons - in between the novels. Keeps me busy, along with reading blogs of course!

  6. I am now an audio book person and have finishedMichelle Obama’s and part way through Barak’s. Which is a too detailed book but I guess he needed his version of his past out there. My current novel is Outlander narrated by Judy Dench. I already am watching the Netflix version. I like the book better as it is less visually hurtful.

  9. I like happy endings, and haven't read any books by Anita Shreve. Do you read D.E. Stevenson books, which are very light hearted.

  10. Hello, I'm new to your blog but I love the mix of books and nature. Anita Shreve was a favorite author of mine - she passed away much too young. I have read all of her books.
