Fall is here. Can you believe it?
It decided to turn cool. This Nor'easter is making my ears and nose cold. I am NOT going to turn my heat on but you can bet I am going to put my feet on the heating pad while I watch my Saturday college football. Roll Tide!!
My week has been interesting. I am less willing to drive in the rain now at this age than ever. I don't even want to do it in a drizzle. Wednesday I had a dental appointment and guess what... it was drizzling!! I told myself I was brave and I must have believed myself 'cause I took off in that yucky mess and made it fine. Glad that trip was successful!
Friday was a pretty day. Thank God for sunshine!! My car needed it's yearly inspection and I had an eight o'clock appointment to get it done. I mean, I don't usually get up 'til 8 but once again, I told myself I could do it and I did. Another successful trip. I'm getting pretty good at this!!
I may pull out my Fall decorations tomorrow and make this place look more seasonal. I don't do much.. there's no storage for a lot of stuff and I just don't have the energy to be lifting and tugging at boxes that hold things I really don't need. We'll see how that goes.
I spent two days going through some old keepsakes I have stored in totes under my bed. I told you storage was in short supply around here! What memories all of that drug up along with a ton of dust and used tissues I had blown my nose on and somehow they had hidden under my bed. I got rid of that mess and then cleaned up and neatly arranged my keepsakes back to await another day when I want a little trip down memory lane.
I'll share a couple of my keepsakes that I am so proud of...
This is my grandfather's school book. He signed the inside of it with his name and date... 1886.

What a couple of beautiful treasures! I have similar things that I need to find a better way to store. Currently they are in a cedar chest that badly needs refinishing. In the garage, no ess.
ReplyDeleteLove that meme and its so true - it's either the house or me - I don't have time for both! I have a few of those telegrams from WW2 from my uncle to my grandmother. He was in the army aircorp in England. I love things like that!

Latane, your Nor'easter week sounded like the perfect mix of weather-watching, practical errands, and treasure hunting. A grandfather's school book signed in 1886 is remarkable, imagine the penmanship lessons in those pages. And a V-Mail from Italy during WWII is the kind of keepsake museums dream about. Thank you for sharing pieces of them with us.
ReplyDeleteTwo days sorting totes under the bed is real work, and worth every minute when it ends with rediscovering treasures like these. I hope the totes are a little better organized now, though I suspect every drawer you tidy gives up at least one story you did not expect.

I wonder if you found a few things to decorate your place for Fall. If you have a thrift store nearby I suppose you could buy a Fallish thing or two and take them right back once you want to move on to Christmas decor. No storing is involved.
ReplyDeleteoooooh latane, i think we are all playing the same game, how long will we be able to go "without" putting the heat on. it got cool heat, next week it is going to be in the 80's, i'll need a/c!!! at the direct shore, the nor'easter hit hard and there was a lot of flooding. i am 10 minutes from the ocean, we had rain and wind but nothing like what they showed on tv. good finds...i always enjoy seeing the handwriting on those old letters!!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting. I have a trunk filled with letters and cards over the years. My grandma and I wrote a letter to each other every Sunday after I went to college. I love to sit and read them sometimes. I sure miss her. It was interesting getting a little peak into your life. I hope you stay warm and enjoy your game.
