The Correspondent

I have had the best luck in my reading material lately. Thanks to my Susan who keeps giving me books to read. Last night I finished The Correspondent and was completely taken by surprise.

You see, I started that thing and just couldn't figure out who the characters were so I thought 'hey, this is a dud.' The whole book is nothing but letters different people have written to each other, the main one being Sybil. But, it all started making sense and before I knew it, I couldn't put it down.

A completely original format.. well, maybe not original but certainly not the regular style of writing. I think it was refreshing to read something out of the norm.

And, you know what! I used to love to write letters and did so a lot. Then came email, then texting ... you get my drift. Letter writing is a lost art. But, this book put me back in touch with the feel I always got when I either wrote a letter or received one. I think we ought to bring back Letter Writing!!

I recommend this book. It's all about loss and grief, and joy and sadness, and adventure and love and finding yourself. Pretty much how life really is. Let me know if you have read it or when you do, I would be interested to know your take on it.

  2. Glad to hear what you thought about the book. I have it reserved at my library but it will take a while I think. It seems to be very popular now. I've noticed lately I have trouble keeping all the characters straight in books. Either they are adding too many characters or my memory is slipping! Have a great weekend!

  3. I have red this book and I agree that letter writing has become a lost art, Latane. Years ago, before texting came along and the cost of postage skyrocketed , I had pen pals in several countries and the US. Today, I write letters to several blogger friends and always write short notes when sending cards for birthdays, get well thinking of you, etc.

  4. I haven't yet read this one. But I loved writing real letters. Before my mom died, I wrote her once a week. She said it was the first piece of mail she opened and was always happy to get one.

  6. I read read this before it became wildly popular, so can barely remember it, but do remember the letter format, and loving it after awhile.

  8. Overall, I enjoyed it -- I usually like books written in this format. I only wish that politics didn't have to be wedged into it, like so many modern novels.

  9. I haven't seen this available in the library. Maybe I should put a hold on it to be the next one. It was on the best seller list forever.

  10. Thank you for your visit! I don’t have much time to read in Spring but after the garden is in order I’ll try to find the book for this summer and relax! ☺️
