Surprise fun!

I know you girls are dying to find out what happened about the surprise grocery delivery yesterday. We never did find out who they belonged to and baby, come to Mama, do.... I had fun unloading each bag. It was quite a trip!

Well, I've come to the conclusion that it wasn't meant for this 55+ community anyway.... not with what I found in those bags. These are older people living here, lots of apartments with only one person and certainly not more than two and they eat 'old-timey'. Well, some of us are more adventurous but you know what I mean.

I mean, there was some STRANGE stuff in there. How about jalepeno stuffed olives? Or three bags of large bell peppers, a huge bag of basmati rice, coconut milk? I could go on and on... There was no bread, eggs, milk or cleaning supplies. Strange.

Here is a pic of a few of the odd things.... At least they seemed odd to me. The amount of bell peppers just blew my mind.

There were two huge packages of chicken tenders, 3 packages of smoked sausages. Nah... noone from here ordered that stuff. But, I am the happy recepient and I am experimenting.

I am guessing they are coffee drinkers. I am not. But, I have me two huge bottles of coffee creamers.... flavored. Any idea what to do with those?

Made myself an omelet this morning adding some of those peppers, pimento stuffed olives, some fresh spinach that was in a bag. Man, it was good. I topped it all with shaved parmesan cheese. Happy camper, that I am!

I consider it a gift from God. I hate some one had their order messed up. I wouldn't wish that on anyone but I am so thankful that it was my apartment that it happen to land at. I am going to have so much fun trying some of this stuff.

Now, what will I make with coconut milk? I've never used it... any ideas?

  1. How fun is this? Someone likes a little spice it seems. I think you need to make some stuffed peppers. I don't drink coffee either and have never used coconut milk.

  2. i also feel bad for the person who ordered these groceries and did not receive them. i don't know of and have never used coconut milk. i am also not a coffee drinker. maybe you could find a resident in the apartments who might be able to use those items. or google coconut milk and see what people make with it. thos peppers look really great, i use a lot of peppers in my meals. peppers are also good raw with a slather of cream cheese and some seasonings. i use "everything but the bagel" seasongs. you could also chop up the peppers, freeze them well and freeze them, would be sad to see them go to waste. your omelet looks good!!

  3. You can see if any of your neighbors would like the coffee creamer and coffee, that is good coffee! Coconut milk makes really good coconut rice, you could eat it with those chicken tenders! I love peppers, you can chop them up and freeze them, or share with neighbors. What fun though!

  4. Oh my gosh, that first photo looks like almost all the stuff I buy. I get my stuffed olives at Aldi with Jalapeno and also garlic and love me some bell peppers. I also use coconut cream and milks.

Coconut is great when making a caramel sauce. Or when making a non-dairy frozen cheese cake. It's also good in tomato and garbanzo bean soups. Also great in non-dairy ice cream. There are many, many good uses and I love having both coconut milk and coconut cream on hand.

  6. I'm sure the other people got another order for free...
You can cut up the bell peppers and freeze them...most any of it, really. Except the flavored creamers. I do not like my creamer flavored so no idea on how to use them
    Stay warm!

  7. You can dice or slice those bell peppers and freeze them in freezer bags or containers for future meals (soups, stews, casseroles, breakfasts, etc). You can also stuff them for a lunch/dinner or even make an egg bake mixture for breakfast bell peppers (very good too, just google it).

  8. What a treat to be able to figure out how to use the different foods. That coffee is good though. When I was on vacation this past summer with my sisters, my one sister bought it and I loved it... as long as it isn't the light roast. I don't use creamers in my coffee either but if you for sure won't use them, maybe someone else in your building would use them. By the way, your omelet looks so good to me right now as I type this at 7:30 a.m. on a cold winter morning.

  9. I'd send the coffee creamers to the common room for the next coffee party, maybe the coffee, too. How about Thai Coconut Soup?

  10. The coffee and creamer would make for a nice neighbor gift - maybe you could try for something if not? Also, I know there are recipes out there that call for creamer as an added flavor. For the rice, Coconut rice comes to mind, with some chicken stewed with olives, add spinach. YUM. What a fun way to experiment with new tastes. (:

    1. That was supposed to say trade - not try. But that's a fun idea, too - a food trade!

  11. Hello I use coconut milk all the time, if you don’t like curries, you can add it to veggie soup. It jazzes up any veggie soup. I usually put about quarter to a half in each batch of soup I make. Left over coconut milk freezes well. For instance for today’s lunch I made a soup out of a large sweet potato, added quarter of a can of coconut milk, one tea spoon of cumin, a stock cube, enough water to cover and cooked it in my soup maker for 20 minutes. Bob’s your uncle delicious soup, my lunch for a few days! Cooking on a Stove top would be around the same time, but then you need to liquidise it.

For dinner today I fried an onion in a large pot, sliced up some bell peppers, added a tin of tomatoes, the rest of the coconut milk, some spices, about a teaspoon of garlic, cumin, turmeric and a wee pinch of chilli flakes and finally some uncooked white fish, to make a Goan curry. Boiled some rice to accompany it & you could add some fresh chopped cilantro. I often have mango chutney & popadoms in the store cupboard.

I sometimes cafe a splash of coconut milk to frozen bananas and some chocolate powder, in my blender to make a vegan type icecream ( I’m lactose intolerant, since getting ill teaching in India :)

  12. Yes, Latane, it is sad that the person who ordered all the food did not get the order, but then that is not your mistake and hopefully it will be refilled. meanwhile, you will certainly get to try some different than usual things, but I would say no to the jalapeno-stuffed olives. You used to coffee creamers but now just use half & half. Coconut milk is used in many things and you could find lots of ideas online. Patrick is not found of coconut so I've never bought or used it.
